Tension in the Zócalo. Teachers from the CNTE surrounded a group of traffic police who tried to block a protest vehicle. In the ensuing scuffle, the teachers overpowered the officers, and one of the most seriously injured was the deputy traffic chief, who was left.
The CNTE teachers' union in Michoacán, Guerrero, and Oaxaca has begun mobilizations and a 72-hour strike; they threaten to hold demonstrations during the World Cup if their demands are not met.
